Bandera Library Happenings

By Paul A. Phelan
Director, Bandera Kronkosky Public Library

Howdy to all!
The 2024 Summer Reading Program is just around the corner. The theme for this year is Adventure Begins at Your Library. We have a special lineup this year, including four special Saturday programs. Join us on Saturday, June 1, at 10 a.m., for the Summer Reading Kickoff Party. There will be bounce houses, crafts, refreshments, and lots of fun. The Friends of Bandera Library will host their book fair that day, as well. So don’t miss it.
For all of you aspiring writers out there, the library will host award-winning poet, novelist, and children’s book author Carrie Fountain on June 5, at 4 p.m., for a reading and book discussion. This program is courtesy of the Texas Commission on the Arts.
Thursday, June 6, at 10 a.m., the Bandera County River Authority will  take our little ones on a special river adventure. On Thursday, June 13, at 10 a.m., join Miss Elise for an extra special Fantasy Adventure storytime.
Back by special demand, Danny Conner will showcase his Reptile Adventure on Saturday, June 15, at 10 a.m. This spectacular includes a whole array of exotic reptiles. Also, don’t miss our special Nature Adventure storytime Thursday, June 20, at 10 a.m.
On Saturday, June 22, at 10 a.m., the library will host crowd favorite Kevin Fitzpatrick for a trick roping western adventure. For a nice change of pace, the library will present a Sports Adventure storytime Thursday, June 27, at 10 a.m.
Join us for the final Saturday program of the summer Saturday, June 29, at 10 a.m., for an Animal Adventure with Happy Tails. Happy Tails Entertainment is an exotic animal outreach that showcases all kinds of unique animals.
On July 11. at 10 a.m., beat the heat and bring the little ones to our Water Adventure party. There will be water slides, games, and cold refreshments.
Have you ever seen a real superhero? If not join us Thursday, July 18, at 10 a.m., for a Real Superhero Adventure with Bandera County first responders. The Bandera Police, Fire, and EMS will be on hand to interact with the kids and show off all of their equipment that keeps us safe.
Finally, on Thursday, July 25, at 10 a.m., the Jakku Temple Saber Guild will take us on a Space Adventure. This Lucasfilm-recognized Star Wars costuming group specializes in choreographed lightsaber shows and is sure to be a big hit with the whole family.
I would like to recognize our sponsors for making all of this possible. Aetna, BEC, Dough Joe, HEB, Lowes, and Fiesta Winery, thank you! Until next time, happy reading!
