After watching someone throw three kittens from a moving vehicle on Wharton’s Dock Road, some good samaritans driving behind them went into immediate action. They pulled over and began looking for the kittens, sadly finding two had been killed. But the third, a tiny ginger tabby, was still alive.
The kitten - a little boy - was delivered to Denise Dressen Searcy, who cleaned his wounds and took him to Bandera Veterinary Clinic.
“One of my son’s co-workers [found the kitten],” Searcy said, adding another woman said she watched the driver toss the kittens while speeding down the road.
Bandera County Chief Deputy Matt King said witnesses reported someone was throwing the kittens from a blue Nissan Rogue on Tuesday, May 14. Although they did not have an accurate license plate number, King said Animal Control deputies searched the area, but did not find anything.
Six days later, on May 20, King said witnesses reported seeing a bearded male, driving a grey Ford pick-up with fog lights, throwing kittens out of his truck on PR 37, in Lakehills. Deputies responded to the call, searching the sides of the road, again to no avail.
Searcy said she would like to help raise awareness and funds for abused animals.
“I would love to be able to set up an account for stuff like this so that people wouldn’t feel stressed about taking an animal they find in distress to the vet,” Search said.
