The Bandera Marshal’s Office will host a Trap/Neuter/Release event on Friday, June 14, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., in Bandera City Park. Reserved for feral cats within the city limits, the mobile veterinary team will treat approximately 45 cats within the five-hour time frame.
Cats will be spayed or neutered, given a rabies and FeLV (feline leukemia) vaccine, and any other medical conditions will be addressed. Because leukemia and HIV are contagious, cats that test positive for those diseases will be euthanized, City Marshal Nancy De Foster said.
The first-come, first-served event is free for city residents and city business owners. Traps are available for those who need one; email [email protected] for assistance. The Marshal’s Office is accepting donations of towels, traps and dry catfood.
De Foster said the June 14 event, sponsored by Custom Glass and Mirror, TJ’s @ the Old Forge, Bandera EDC and the Loving Texas Pet Assistance, is for feral cats only, not porch cats. Those with porch cats and pets may send an email to be placed on the waiting list for a future spay/neuter event.
The Marshal’s Office is raising funds for more TNR clinics during the Bandera Riverfest on Saturday, June 29, at the dunking booth. Patrons will be able to purchase tickets to dunk elected officials and other community leaders, or pay to get them out. Dunking volunteers may call 830-460-7172 to sign up.
The Marshal’s Office is also hiring for part-time deputy and reserve officers. Those interested may go to the TML (Texas Muncipal League) website for more information.
