Fish fry to benefit Ukraine

For some of the most devout, Lent is a time of sacrifice. The Friday Lenten fish fry is a tradition that dates to the late 1800s, a tweak on the Friday fast that has been traced to the first century AD. Tweaking the custom once more, the Bandera Knights of Columbus of Saint Stanislaus Catholic Church is embracing the spirit of the selflessness they honor each Friday during Lent, and will donate the proceeds of their weekly fish fry to the Ukraine Solidarity Fund.
Friday, March 25, is the fourth fish fry round of the Lenten season. In response to the horrors Ukraine and its citizens are facing, the Bandera Knights of Columbus will contribute to help pay for shelter and food expenses, and provide medical, clothing and religious supplies.
To date, the Knights of Columbus nationwide have donated $7,380,732, according to the KOFC website.
“As the situation in Ukraine continues to change, the need to support refugees continues to grow. The Knights of Columbus will be working with our councils in Poland as well as the Latin and Greek Catholic Churches in Ukraine,” the site states.
For more information on the Knights of Columbus and some of the latest news and stories from Ukraine, go to www.kofc.org/en/what-we-do/charity/ukraine.html.
Locally, on Friday, go to 602 7th Street in Bandera. Dinner will be served from 5-7 p.m., or until the fish runs out.
